AHF Conference Attendees Partner With Capital Area Foodbank To Provide Blessings in a Backpack: Food 4 Kidz

WHAT:              The Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF) is honored to partner with the Capital Area Foodbank (CAFB) to provide fresh and healthy meals to more than 4,000 children in the DC-metro area who rely on free and reduced lunch programs.  Through the Blessings in a Backpack: Food 4 Kidz Program, conference attendees will assemble 4,000 healthy and nutritious meals into backpacks for DC school children who rely on meal plans during the weekends.

“We are so grateful for the generous support of our business partners who are providing the food items for these meals,” said Julie Jones, AHF President.

“Huge thanks to, Barilla, Basic American Foods, Campbell's, Dannon, Ecolab, General Mills, Hormel, Kellogg's, Ocean Spray, PepsiCo Foodservice, Rich's, Starkist, Sysco, and US Foods” added Jones.

The Capital Area Foodbank supports more than 200,000 children and teens at risk of hunger in the metro area. CAFB started the Kids Cafe program in 1998 as a way to address the growing needs of the youth in our community. Kids Cafe is a national program of Feeding America that provides afterschool and summer meals to children ages 5-18.  CAFB’s Kids Cafe program focuses on healthy eating providing fresh produce with each distributed.
