AHF Highlights Healthcare Sustainability Efforts in Honor of Earth Day 2020

As you might know April 22nd was Earth Day. More than that, it marked the 50-year anniversary of celebrating Earth Day. All over social media, the internet, and the media are highlights of how we can honor and recognize our role in caring for the health of our planet.

AHF and our members have long recognized the critical role foodservice, and healthcare foodservice, plays in positively impacting environmental sustainability and resilience. AHF’s members are at the forefront of deploying large scale, complex, sustainability programs. More than that, they are doing it while simultaneously elevating hospital foodservice with fresher, healthier, and more sustainably sourced products.

To honor how our foodservice operations and business partner members have been contributing to environmental stewardship we have collected a few recent highlights of members’ sustainability programs and efforts around the country.

AHF Sustainability Award

Launched in 2019, AHF’s Sustainability Award honors operator members who implemented or continuously improved and expanded foodservice waste reduction programs on the path to sustainability. Areas include food waste reduction, waste storing programs, composting, recycling, water conservation, improving use of reusables, and food donation programs.

Our inaugural 2019 Sustainability Award Winner, Dawn Cascio from The Valley Hospital in New Jersey sat down with AHF and talked about winning the first AHF Sustainability Award. Check out her interview here.
